Just a Couple Things
A few thoughts have been rattling around my head this week. Today's big new is Braylon Edwards was traded to the NY Jets. As a few of you might know. My childhood team was the Browns. I have currently disowned them. This move should have been made in the off season. I was never really sold on Edwards, I like my diva receiver's to actually produce. Edwards was always, more potential than production sans 2006. I do think much like when Plaxico went to the Giants, NY could be the place for him. The Jets really didn't give up much on this reclamation project, and if it works. They can thank their former coach for both their franchise QB and Number 1 Receiver. That's a pretty nice parting gift.
Vikings-Packers tilt on Monday, was both entertaining and vindicating. See when he was signed, all the radio talk jocks were like this can't work. The Vikings are making a huge mistake. I heard tons of guys pan the move. I think these guys say a lot of things, most of which don't come true. The few things they get right we have to hear about. I think when they get something so incredibly wrong. they should say whoops. My Fault. Farve has them +2 on the season, wins they wouldn't have if Rosenfels or Jackson was their QB.
Why I love post season baseball, was on display last night. Twists and turns. An unbelievable game. BTW I predict Yankees over Phillies in 6.

Not as many upsets this week, Alabama reclaimed the top spot again from Florida by .50 points. SEC has top 3 spots, it will change when they start taking each other down but still impressive. Weekend Pickoff
Last week I was 2-3-1, got screwed with a failed late 2 pt conversion. It brings my record to 9-8-1 on the season hopefully we have a good week ahead of us.
Michigan (+3.5) over Michigan St
Don't like anything going on with Sparty right now. Getting these points seem like a gift to me. Might be close because of the rivalry. But Hail to the Victors will be played at the end.
USC (-4.5) over California
USC doesn't look quite as dominating as they normally do. Unfortunately for Cal they look like they always do.
NC State (+2.5) over Wake Forest
NC State can score, Wake can not. Don't think the Deacons can score 24 plus like they'll need to, to win.
Cincinnati (-6) over Cleveland
Derek Anderson. Enough Said.
Tennessee (-3) over Jacksonville
The Titans are due a win. Jags are wrong place and wrong team, Tenn does everything Jax does but better.
NY Giants (-8.5) over Kansas City
Giants may be the best team in the league, KC may be the worse. Laying the points even in Arrowhead.

Comment Time
When I get interesting comments, I'll respond to them from time to time. Here's one from yesterday

Todd said...
Suprised by the Jets sustained success. I never am too sold on a team starting a rookie QB. Suprised with all the turmoil going on in Denver that they galvanized and are 3-0. Lucky as that first win was the other two were solid W's. Disappointed by the Steelers. The defending champs 1-2 at this point and no one expected that. Their lack of a run game makes their offense too predictable. Their defense seems timid with backup Safety Tyrone Carter in. And Houston every time I think they are about to make that stride to make them respectable they play games like against Jacksonville.

1. On the Jets, Defense and Running will allow for more success, They faded at the end and a change from Mangini to Ryan brings more enthusiasm, Sanchez looks solid to me.

2. Denver beat Oakland, Cleveland, and Cincy on a fluke. I'm not sold. Still thin SD takes that division by 3 games.

3. Steelers could easily be 3-0 and 0-3. I think they'll be fine. They got a pretty soft schedule. I still see them with 11 0r 12 wins. I think their just fine. Can't panic 3 weeks in.

4. Houston they are a Jeckyl and Hyde kind of team. I wasn't suprised that Indy was strong. Tenn and Jax are not rollovers. Houston has yet to bring it every week. Until they do. 6-8 wins is the best they can hope for.

PCS
This week in the PCS, there is a new sheriff in town as Florida assumes the top spot by barely edging out last week's number one Alabama by .10 points. A ton of turmoil this week as upsets populated the college landscape. Welcome Iowa, Houston, Georgia, Oregon, and Kansas. Say good bye to Penn St, Miami (FL), California, Mississippi, and North Carolina. Here are the pairings.
1. Florida vs 16. Kansas
8. Cincinnati vs 9. USC
4. Boise St vs 13. Ohio St

After 3 weeks of the topsy turvy NFL Season. I'd like to check in on some my bold predictions that I made before the season. I located 4 teams I thought would improve and 4 that would slide.

Sliders
Tennessee Titans 0-3
Carolina Panthers 0-3
Baltimore Ravens 3-0
Miami Dolphins 0-3

Improvers
New York Jets 3-0
San Francisco 49ers 2-1
Seattle Seahawks 1-2
Cincinnati Bengals 2-1

I was flat wrong on the Ravens, but pretty dead on the other 3. the reason I picked these 4 were there margins of error to win games was too small. Flacco taking a leap in his second season has helped the Ravens avoid the pitfalls of the other 3. I think you can see the similarities between the teams. They run the ball and play good defense. Sometimes you can overachieve for a season but the following one you normally are not quite as lucky.

On the improvers. I loved the Jets off season. Knew they be force still remains to be seen if they can get to 10 wins though. The 49ers were so improved over the second half of the season and play in a week division. Seattle, just felt with Hasselbeck they would solidify, was wrong there. Cincinnati is too talented, and due for some good breaks.

Overall I think nailing 3 of 4 in each category was respectable.

Feel free to send in your first quarter suprises and disappointments.

Weekend Pickoff
Last week went 3-3. Record for season is 7-5. Couple of close calls. But I digress. It's time for the picks.
Houston (-1) over Texas Tech
Like Houston at home against another B 12 team that throws the ball a lot.
Miami (-3) over Virginia Tech
Miami just too athletic for Tech, They always have problems with athletic teams.
Cincinnati (-16) over Fresno St.
I'm riding with Bearcats and Tony Pike until they lose. Love Brian Kelly the coach. Fresno won't be able to run like that on this D.
Minnesota (-7) over San Francisco
Not buying SF yet. Big time belief Minn will be in NFC Title game. SF coming to the MW after 2 wins. Poised for a let down.
Chicago (-2) over Seattle.
Seneca Wallace vs Jay Cutler. I'm going with Cutler
New York Giants (-6.5) over Tampa Bay
Looks like Eli got some new toys. He's using them. TB's D is a mess.
