I ran the PCS Final pairings in a simulation from ESPN found here http://http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls07/bracket?lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1pos1

This was a fun little exercise. I ran it 25 times, no way enough to give any statistical significance but out of curiosity. I'll point out how each team did with interesting facts about them as well.

1. LSU

16. Tennessee

In this match up LSU prevailed 14 times and Tennessee won 11. A lot closer than you would think. Also Tennessee made the semifinals 6, finals 3, and won the title 1 the same amount as LSU. LSU only bringing home the title once was shocking.

8. USC

9. Hawaii

Here USC dominates the series 21-4. They made the semifinals 12 times. The finals 9 times the most in the tournament. They ended up winning the title 7 times more than double any other competitor. Hawaii only won 2 games once. Hawaii was only one of three teams not to win any titles. One of two teams not to make it to the finals at all.

5. Missouri

12. Florida

Somewhat surprising to me was the fact Missouri didn't just win the series but pretty much owned Florida 18-7. Florida should have won 53 % of the time, they just didn't. Missouri also made the semifinals more than anyone else with 13 appearances. They were one of three teams to bring home 3 titles. Florida advanced only 4 times to semifinals. Twice to the finals and won one title.

4. Virginia Tech

13. Boston College

This series was the most surprising by percentages as BC was only supposed to win 45% of the time. They ended up winning the series 14-11. Both teams got housed by Missouri/Florida combo 17-8 with BC getting 5 of those wins. BC made the finals twice and VT made them once. Both took home one title apiece.

3. Oklahoma

14. Illinois

This one's a blow out in both paper and simulation worlds as the Sooners took the series 19-6. Oklahoma made it to the the semi's 11 times, the finals 8 times which was second most and they won three titles. Illinois, if they got past the Sooners made it to the semi's half the time. They also appeared in the finals 2 times but they could grab a title while they were there.

6. Georgia

11. Arizona St.

Georgia took this series 18-7. They preceded to get to the semifinals 10 times and the finals 7 times. They are the last team to win three titles. Arizona St however only produced one victory in their 7 chances in the second round. They made the finals in their only chance and produced a miracle title as well.

7 Kansas

10 West Virginia

The closest series ends up going WVU's way 13-12. The funny thing is they seem to have their way in the second round going a combined 16-9 both picking up 8 semi's appearances. WVU was never able to bust down that door and get to the finals. They had far more opportunities than others but couldn't get the job done. Kansas however had more success getting to the finals 3 times and collecting 2 titles.

2. Ohio St.

15. Clemson

Ohio St. wins the series 15-10. Clemson does better in the second round getting to the semi's 5 times to the Buckeye's 4. Both get to the finals twice and both collect a single title.

Just for the record I've declared USC PCS champion for the time being.
